The suspension spring codes are listed on the SPID trunk label.
All four springs have their own separate codes.
They spring codes are as follows:
The code starting with the number 6 is the left front spring.
The number 7 is the right front spring.
The number 8 is the left rear spring.
The number 9 is the right rear spring.
They will be one of these four numbers followed by a two character code.
All springs were matched depending on the suspension level and type of options and standard equipment installed on the vehicle.
By matching the code to a corresponding chart in the GM parts catalog the correct replacement spring could be ordered.
At one time there was a large selection of springs to chose from but over the years GM has replaced most of them with a common part number to cut down on their inventory stock.
There was also a tag taped to the spring with a matching code and part number for identification.
The following list will have the Buick spring code and GM part number with the highest spring rate listed at the top, and the lowest spring rate at the bottom.
These are for the years 1985 to 1987 with RPO FE3 suspension option.
