To celebrate Mattel’s 80th Anniversary (Mattel makes Hot Wheels cars), they have released a special 8 Pack Box Set of assorted cars.
The set features a balanced mix of 3 American cars, 3 German cars, and 2 Japanese cars.
Each car comes in a deep pearl red body (which some sellers are calling it ruby red), with a silver themed Mattel 80th Anniversary logo displayed on the rear quarter panel (it’s the number 80 with the Mattel logo inside the 0).
[ we like the color of these vehicles, the wheels… not so much ]
The Set contains these 8 cars:
’82 Toyota Supra, Dodge Viper RT/10, ’87 Buick Regal GNX, ’89 Porsche 944 Turbo, ’83 Chevy Silverado, Volkswagen Golf Mk2, BMW M3 Race, Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32).
All of the ebay listings we saw for sale were from out of the USA, and were priced around $80-85 (shipped) for the set of 8 different cars in the original box.
We also saw 1 seller offering 8 cars of the ’87 Buick Regal GNX by itself (we’re not sure if they come in the original box or not, as that wasn’t stated, but it did say “Loose”). And the price was $75 (shipped, but you pay extra for customs import fees).
Another seller was offering just the single 87 Buick Regal GNX, loose, for $15 shipped.
.
Note that there are 5 Pack sets (themed like this) available as well (but we haven’t seen any yet with the Buick in them).
