Occasionally some rare diecast prototype samples of the 1987 Buick Grand National car are offered on ebay.
This week, there’s actually 2 of them!
(and they both were just listed)
They appear to be of the same variety, both gold plated, both of the Racing Champions MINT series, 1:64 scale versions.
In unboxed condition, since these are sample cars.
[ sample cars, AKA “prototypes” are the diecasts that the manufacturers use to determine the accuracy of the specific vehicle before these toy cars are put into production. Most cars get a few different prototype versions created before the official “ok” is given to start manufacturing the mass production of them ]
The first one we are presenting here, marked “00000” on the bottom, is offered direct for sale at $300.

The second one, going up for bids (with a $25 start, 10 days to go), is a little worse for wear than the above one, but none the less still cool. Can you say “rare?”
The side mirrors are off the vehicle, but still attachable since the posts that secure them to the Buick GN remain on them.
(which makes us wonder why the seller just didn’t put them back on the car?)
The rear bumper is also detached on one side (but nothing that a dab of glue couldn’t cure).
This one is labelled “0000” and also has a “#3” stamp on it, indicating this was the third sample (3rd version) of Racing Champions trying to create this die cast car.

Here’s your chance to put some cool rare diecast collectibles into your Buick diecast collection, that you don’t see everyday.
AKA “Pre-Production Sample” diecast cars.
