It’s a good thing that Hot Wheels is continuing on with their mass production of the popular 1:64 scale Buick Grand National diecast.
And surprisingly, apparently even creating some new versions of it (with new wheels, instead of just making easy car paint changes only)!
This ebay seller (from Malaysia), has some kind of special access to these rare test run pieces, as it’s not the first time we’ve seen these unique prototype versions being offered from them (and they have numerous good feedback as well).
The seller states about this particular factory test run piece:
This is an authentic production prototype vehicle directly from the Mattel plant in Malaysia.
There are typically 2 variations (GOT 2 TYPE RAW BODY AND PAINT BODY) of a new vehicle engineered with different color interiors, windows, or wheels. Once the final design is approved, the prototypes are often destroyed as they are no longer needed.
This prototype vehicle in this auction was saved from being destroyed since it differs slightly from the chosen design. It is extremely rare as only a handful of prototypes are produced.
This is an actual vehicle created in the production process at the factory.
It will not be created again. It is not a custom car made after the fact, rather a piece used in the manufacturing process at the factory.
The base of the car is embossed with:
Made in Thailand
K6142 1186 MJ, I, NL
and stamped with “T03” (which assumedly is test car number 3).
We see the same black color paint, but with new gold rims featuring 5 spokes with 5 slots, mounted on Good Year Eagle tires.
