Splash guards, aka mud flaps, are meant to protect the body surface directly behind the wheels, from rocks or other debris being thrown up by the tires.
GM NOS Buick parts came in a few different packaging styles as well as the actual design on the splash guard itself. Some had just the Buick name, others had the triple shield logo imprinted on them.
