Back in the 1980s, Buick auto dealerships were giving away their sponsored key fobs, made completely out of a solid piece of rubber, to new car buyers.
These simple round, oval or square shaped key chains had the dealers name, address and phone number on them. Sometimes car shaped key rings were even offered.
Passing out these promotional items was a pretty standard practice performed by Buick car dealerships at that time.
Not that this was really an incentive for purchasing a new vehicle, but more or less a thanks from the dealers.
And it was an expected little gift by buyers as well, I remember family and friends actually asking for the keychains if they weren’t offered automatically when they got a new automobile!
