While installing the G Body Rear Shock Tower Brace, we decided to stiffen the chassis even more, triangulating the rear end all together with the 78-88 GM G-Body control arm reinforcement braces from UMI Performance.
Available in powdercoated red or black, for about $150 (including shipping).
Part #: 3028.
We chose to get them in black, keeping the stealth mode look for this ’87 Buick GN.
These braces basically tie together the rear upper control arms with the lower ones, strengthening up everything even more in the back of your G-body Regal.
These new braces attach to both of the front sides of the upper & lower control arms.
The installation (sounds) as simple as unbolting the 2 bolts from the upper control arms, and the 2 bolts from the lower control arms, then replacing them with the supplied new bolts while inserting the reinforcement braces in between.
It’s not extremely difficult, however, the job does take about an hour per side.
(or at least that’s how long it took us).
And lining them up just right to fit perfectly takes a few tries.
You have to make sure you unscrew them to just the right length to fit snug, while not stressing out the original bolt alignment.
Not to mention breaking loose the OEM bolts for the control arms can be tough, especially if they’ve never been off the car before!
Follow the supplied directions (as well as view the installed pics here, and on UMI’s website so you can actually see how they go in) and you should be ok.
Just jack up your Buick Turbo Regal, spend a couple hours installing the control arm reinforcement braces, drop the car down & you’re done.
More stiffness is now at at your command.
.
This was another cool chassis upgrade, and strengthening your Regal G-body chassis is always a good idea wherever & whenever you can.
