Walter “Buddy” Cox (80 years old) died unexpectedly on February 25, 2025.
Buddy (born March 30, 1944) hailed from Maryland and was the first GNX owner to convert this special Gbody into a full scale race car.
He raced the car in the late 1980s and 1990s.
The car was tubbed and had a roll bar installed along with fiberglass bumpers and hood.
(and a different than stock motor)
His Buick GNX was number 187.
Buddy was especially proud of holding a record for the world’s fastest GNX (running in the 8’s!) and being featured on the cover of many magazines.

Here’s Buddy Cox racing Kenny Duttweiler, when Buddy’s GNX caught fire!
(Buddy talks about what happens within the video)
(the trans line blew off causing fluid to spill onto the headers, which caused the fire)

RIP Buddy.
