CGBG 8th Annual Ohio G-body Classic (Buicks) 7-12-25

Bad Ass Extension Cords

.

The 8th annual G-body Classic car show presented by Classic GBbody Garage was awesome as usual.
The trip to and fro for us, however, was absolutely horrible!
Let me tell you what happened.
It started off with a few miles away from our homebase, when the radio fuse blew (the one inside the radio), meaning no tunes down or back.
Then, our normal 3.25 hour excursion down to the Medina County Fairgrounds took us 5.5 hours this year!
3 bouts of road construction (over an hour delay), followed by 3 rounds of thick rain (another hour delay), caused havoc within our 190 mile (1-way) trip down there.

As if that wasn’t enough, after the car show, we generally hit up The Jack Casino, in downtown Cleveland (for a little fun).
Well, as we were pulling into the parking garage, the u-joint on the rear driveshaft (of our daily driver we went down there in) snapped off! There’s nothing like having to pull into a garage… driving backwards since the driveshaft was scraping on the ground (the front side of the driveshaft was the broken side), lol.
Ugg!
Now, realize that this is occurring about 8:30 on a Saturday night, so not many places open to get parts or repairs.
Nor do we have a lot of friends or contacts down in Cleveland to offer assistance.
So what to do?
With minimal tools within our vehicle, we had no choice but to find and call a local mobile mechanic. For which they can’t get to us until Sunday… afternoon…
We tried 3 different mobile mechanics, that told us basically the same.
OK, so we hang around inside the casino until about 3AM (it beat having to stay outside in the heat!), then head back to the daily driver to crash for awhile (there’s really no hotels nearby).

Alright, it’s now about 2PM Sunday, and the mobile mechanic says he’s on his way.
Suppose to take roughly 45 minutes to arrive. 3:15 comes and goes. Where is this guy?
Call the office back to hear “he’s on his way.” 3:45 office calls, says he’s almost there. 4:15 mechanic calls and says I can’t find you. I tell him we’re not at the main garage, we’re at the other one (which we told the guy on the phone originally). OK he says, be right there. 15 minutes later, he arrives.

This specific repair job (simple removal of the driveshaft, which has only 4 bolts attaching it to the rear end, and as our Jeep has 4WD, we intended on just using the front axle to get us home, but the rear driveshaft couldn’t just be flopping around back there, so it needed to come out).
This task literally took less than 10 minutes for the mechanic to remove.
Of course, it took him almost 2 hours to get to us (we were told it would only take 45 minutes), but still.
Gees, you would be shocked by the amount they charge!
(all 3 places we called quoted about the same amount)
Crazy money for doing this easy job (good thing we won at the casino to pay for this!).
But we didn’t have a choice, had to get it done.
OK, vehicle running good enough to get us home now.
Of course, we’re hungry now, good thing we have comps for a free buffet dinner.
An hour and a half later we’re on our way home (which took about 4 hours as we didn’t want to push it since the 4wd system isn’t really made for FWD alone).

Alrighty, back to discussing the CGBG car show.
We don’t think there were as many G-bodies overall this year as last year (but still 200+ cars in attendance), however, there did seem to be more Buicks for 2025 than in past years (goodie for us).

Todays post is all about them Buicks.
Come back here tomorrow to see everything else from this event.

.

For most car shows we post on here, they’re usually up the next day after the show, but, as we were still down in Cleveland on Sunday because of the above, well, everything’s been delayed a couple days. (we needed Monday to recoup!)

And we missed a local (MI) auto event we wanted to attend on Sunday (that we keep missing for the last 3-4 years for one reason or the other, so, maybe next year).
