Whenever Memorial Day rolls around, that just means one thing for car peeps.
The Memorial Day Showdown car show, held by the Neighborhood Superstars.
This years event was suppose to be on Saturday May 23th, however, due to the weather, it was moved to Monday May 25th. A great choice, as the weather was very warm, probably the warmest day we’ve had this year.
The location changed as well, originally at Gateway Motors in Dearborn, to the old Star Theater lot on 12 Mile Road in Southfield (a spot that this event has been held at previously).
We look forward to this specific show for the sheer number of GM G-body cars that participate. Chevrolet El Camino’s, Malibu’s and Monte Carlo’s, Oldsmobile Cutlasses of all varieties, Pontiac Grand Prix’s, and of course, Buick Regals in multiple flavors.
There’s row and rows of vehicles on display, with quite a few hundred automobiles in attendance.
Plenty of 1960s/1970s Buicks for us to gawk at too, including convertibles.
In past years, this was mainly a big-rim ride event, like 80%, with 20% of everything else.
This year, we saw pretty much a 50/50 split of variety within the parking lot.
A lot more “regular” type of show cars, meaning this gathering is attracting a different audience than before.
(not that this is good or bad, just headed in a new direction)
Russell and his crew put on another event like this in September, aptly named “End of Summer Showdown.”
(another one we attend every year!)
