SWITCH NAME:

Coolant High Temperature Switch

PURPOSE OF SWITCH:

activates the dashboard warning light if engine coolant temperature becomes excessive

TURNS ON-OFF / FUNCTIONS / USED WHEN:

turns dash indicator on if coolant temp is high

LOCATION IN VEHICLE:

[this is looking at it from the FRONT of the car:]
on manifold, left side of thermostat housing (1986-1987)
on manifold, under thermostat housing (1984-1985)

25036371 (1986/1987)

SWITCH / BASE COLOR:

brass with silver tab

CONNECTOR PLUG COLOR (SWITCH SIDE):

black

WIRES ATTACHED (SWITCH SIDE):

n/a

CONNECTOR PLUG COLOR (HARNESS SIDE):

black

NUMBER OF WIRES ATTACHED (HARNESS SIDE):

COLOR & PURPOSE OF (HARNESS SIDE) WIRES:

dark green “B”, goes to (junction) to water temp indicator (on dash), (idiot light)
(connects with ignition switch “G1”)

1 of 3 coolant temperature units (sensors/switches) on the engine.

this is a self grounding switch.

OEM versions have a single tab sticking out of them (see the very last photo herein), and the factory connector goes over it.
Aftermarket versions (usually for use with non-stock temp gauges) have a stud with nuts, where you attach a ring terminal wire on it (see the 5th photo herein).
