tells the ECM if you’re in gear or not.
turns on backup lights.

THIS IS THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH PORTION:

“A” orange-black, goes to ecm “B10” (12v, park/neutral switch input)

“B” black-white (ground wire to transmission): goes to (junction) to backup lights “B”
(junction connects with other things)

THIS IS THE BACKUP LIGHT PORTION:
[switch is closed with gear in reverse]

[2 wires on 1 terminal; incoming power]
dark blue “A” (1 of 2 wires), goes to turn b/u fuse
(connects with turn flasher)

dark blue “A” (1 of 2 wires), goes to turn lights

light green “B” to (junction) to backup lights

black-white “A”, goes to (junction) to ECM “D1” (power ground)
(junction connects with other things)

OTHER NOTES:

This is part of the the “gear selector switch” as identified on diagrams.

Even though this is termed a “neutral safety switch,” it does NOT perform in the conventional manner. This switch has nothing to do with actually starting the car in PARK or NEUTRAL or not, all this switch does is let the ECM know if you are NOT in gear.
